There was a boy lying on his back, neck prickling against the sensation of the sun warmed sand. His black hair was tossed back away from his face, and the pallid limbs glowed in the warm sunlight. The youth's arms were flung out next to him, palms wide opened, and his eyes were closed. Ebony lashes rested against the pale cheekbones. His name was Aiden, and he was currently in his own world. Clutched gently in his left hand, Aiden held a Zune. Earphones lead up to his ears and supplied him with music. Occasionally, the boy's lips would move. Words never escaped them, they just moved along with the music. If the lips weren't moving then the slender fingers were. They'd tap, tap, and tap the beat to whatever song Aiden was listening to at the moment. For once, Aiden's midnight locks were completely out of his face. He smelled of sunscreen and vanilla hand sanitizer.
The sun was hot against his eyelids which were unprotected by the savior sunscreen. Aiden's black shirt and black jeans did little to keep away the heat of the sun, but black was the predominant color of his wardrobe so what could you do? There was a slight breeze, the only relief, and sometimes it would blow pieces of hair into the boy's face. The lilting breeze carried the scent of the sea water, of the waves, and the crashing sound of the water fighting against each other. Aiden looked so peaceful lying there, completely unaware of the world around him. His face was untouched by the cares of the world, completely devoid of all emotion except the occasional half smile that would grace his features. Aiden simply appeared to be in a tranquil sleep in a world far away from the troubles here in the present. And truly? Aiden was.
The thin body that belonged to Aiden shifted slightly. The grains of sand were beginning to feel uncomfortable against the back of his bare arms and neck. It prickled the tattooed skin of Aiden's arms and made the back of his alabaster neck twinge. Eventually the youth settled himself back into the peacefulness of his self-made world. His lips began to move, forming words that would be unspoken, and the pale fingers started tapping to the beat again. What a glorious way to escape reality, what a glorious way indeed! The wind again ruffled his hair, tickling his warm eyelids, and Aiden opened his bright blue eyes to take in the world around him. His right hand came up to push the hair out of his face, and Aiden was slightly upset at being disturbed.
The sky was nothing more then an endless sheet of blue dotted by fluffy clouds that danced by lazily. There was a particular one that was shaped like a unicorn, and that's what made Aiden stay in his spot. Why not make cloud shapes? It was something he hadn't done since he was a young child. The unicorn turned into a bat, and the bat turned into a castle. Aiden, stuck in his obscure thoughts, related the clouds to life. The clouds were constantly changing, and life was constantly changing. What you thought could be permanent could end suddenly, shifting into something else, and completely leaving your life. Aiden stretched his long legs out, yawned slightly, and put his hands behind his head. With his head tilted slightly to the side, Aiden decided that the new cloud looked like an elephant. There was a break in the song, and Aiden heard the crashing of the ocean lullaby as the salty wind whipped his ebony locks.
